Laurie A. Johnson, Corporate Sector Liaison, BayPrep - With over 17 years of professional experience in risk management research and consulting, Laurie Johnson has written extensively about the economics of catastrophes, disaster recovery, and reconstruction for various clients including the U.S. and California geologic surveys, FEMA, HUD, the National Science Foundation, the State of California, Southern California Earthquake Center, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and the Central U.S. Earthquake Consortium. Recently, Ms. Johnson developed a unified recovery and rebuilding plan for the City of New Orleans following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. This plan was accepted by the Louisiana Recovery Authority in June 2007 and now allows the city to access state and federal recovery funds.

A graduate of Texas A&M University with a Master of Urban Planning and a Bachelor of Science in geophysics, Ms. Johnson is also an International Collaborative Researcher and Doctoral Student at the Research Center for Disaster Reduction Systems, in the Disaster Prevention Research Institute at Kyoto University. She is on the Board of Directors of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute and a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and the American Planning Association.
