FRITZ INSTITUTE FORMED
TO STRENGTHEN WEAK LINKS IN THE DISASTER RELIEF CHAIN
Expertise, Resources, and Collaborations with Business, Academics, NGOs to Support Disaster Relief Organizations Worldwide
San Francisco, CA - Recognizing logistics' central role in delivering essential help to disaster victims, Lynn C. Fritz formed the Fritz Institute to expand the availability of talent, best practices and state-of-the-art technology to humanitarian organizations worldwide. Fritz Institute will mobilize business community partnerships to provide expertise and functional support, and collaborate with the academic community to research the needs of disaster relief organizations and educate their service professionals on best practices.
Known as a pioneer of logistics services, Mr. Fritz leverages his 30-years of experience and resources to augment the expertise and resources of NGO and governmental disaster relief organizations. This marks the launch of Mr. Fritz's endeavors, since the sale of Fritz Companies, for which he was Chairman and CEO, to UPS in 2001.
On the heels of the World Economic Forum's announcement of its Disaster Response Network, which Fritz co-chairs, the Institute will foster partnerships throughout the international business community to provide NGOs with increased access to contemporary commercial practices and technology. In fact, Fritz Institute is already engaged to help the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent develop state-of-the-art logistics management software that will enable them to expedite the ordering, inventory, management, and distribution of supplies like medicine, food and shelter to disaster sites.
Fritz Institute has partnerships underway with prominent academic institutions like Georgetown University and faculty from INSEAD University in France and Florida International
University to research best practices, provide training to disaster relief professionals and convene disaster relief leadership: NGO professionals, public policy makers and funders. This spring, a teaching case study sponsored by Fritz Institute will be released, which examines the logistics operations of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent during the Gujarat, India rescue and relief efforts.
Lynn Fritz remains active in the business arena, both as a leader and as an investor in innovative business applications to continue advancing logistics and developing business models for the industry. His continued ties to the business of logistics will help the Institute bring the best commercial practices and resources to help disaster relief organizations worldwide.
